miscellaneous info
26 Apr 2036 07:47 pmCanon point: The anime finale, before he ends up on Earth a second time.
In
clock_town and most other things, he's dead and his soul just saw Envy pass through the Gate.
In
witchesreign, he's pulled from slightly later - the moment he tries to sacrifice himself, before he passes through the Gate and sees Al being put back together.

Some differences from the manga / Brotherhood
- Angst. Probably the second most immediately apparent thing. He doesn't do it all the time, but even when not actively moping he's moodier and more walled-off in general.
- Shorter. At these canon points he's 16 years old, but somewhere around 5'2" and definitely not taller than Winry. He has no excuse for this.
- Obviously, discrepancies in backstory - both recent and not so recent.
- In particular, never permanently regains either of his missing limbs. Also, never had a reason to switch to cold-weather automail, so in combat he's a little slower.
- Small but significant differences in his style of alchemy.
- The energy for his transmutations is drawn from the souls of dead people passing through the Gate.
- When he does use them, arrays and transmutation circles frequently look identical or similar, but the more complicated ones often incorporate long, flowing curves and shapes as well as the usual symbols and geometrical patterns.
- A Philosopher's Stone isn't the same thing in his world, and the people who go into making one (or less refined variants, like a red stone) really are dead. As such, he probably isn't able to cast from lifespan.
- Sometimes a transmutation might be physically taxing independent of rebound.
- Remote alchemy might be possible...
- Sense of aesthetics is not particularly macabre; in fact, it more often veers into goofy territory.
- Not a technical pacifist, although he used to try.
- Much less interested in relationships, even when he isn't otherwise busy.
- Appearance-wise: slightly pointier face, slightly shorter ahoge, but unlike the height difference it would be hard to notice either unless they were side by side. The flamel on the back of his trademark coat is somewhat smaller.
Assorted general headcanon
- Born on the 27th January 1899.
- Right-handed, so the hand he writes with isn't dominant. When he started writing left-handed, he'd print most things just so they were legible. Years later, he's considerably faster and doesn't need to any more, but his handwriting is still on the scrawly side. Also, his typing is pretty slow.
- Naturally has something of a xenophobic streak, which he's aware of and usually manages to ignore. It extends to non-humans, however human they look - though obviously not if he doesn't know.
- Despite having reconciled with his dad enough to actually call him Dad, there's still quite a bit of lingering resentment there. It doesn't begin to go away until he watches Hohenheim die, which hasn't happened yet.
- Has a talent for picking up languages that goes beyond his quickness on the uptake in general, though he hasn't had an opportunity to use it much yet.
- Often talks in his sleep.
